www.queenlatifah.com

Queen Latifah: musician; television and film actress; a label president; an author and entrepreneur. Blessed with style and substance, Queen Latifah has blossomed into a one-woman entertainment conglomerate. Heralded by the press and the industry as a force to be reckoned with, Latifah has quite simply done it all and shows no sign of slowing down. Latifah has had amazing success in Hollywood in recent years, and became the first hip hop artist to be crowned with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on January 4, 2006. She received rave reviews, an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, a Golden Globe nomination and a SAG Award nomination for her portrayal as Mama Morton in Miramax’s Chicago. Following Chicago, Latifah starred in Disney’s box office hit Bringing Down the House, on which she also acted as executive producer. In addition to music, film and television, Queen Latifah has also written a book on self-esteem entitled Ladies First: Revelations of a Strong Woman. Queen Latifah is diligent in her pursuit of excellence, as is evident by the awards she has received for her work in film and music. Her sincere concern for others is revealed by the generous amount of time and money that she donates to worthwhile charitable organizations. Every year, Queen Latifah serves as co-chairman for the Lancelot H. Owens Scholarship Foundation, Inc. Established by her mother, Rita Owens, to perpetuate the memory of a loving son and brother, the foundations provides scholarships to students who excel scholastically, but are limited in financial resources.

Ice Cube

Date: Thu, Dec 10, 2009
Showtime: 8:00 PM
Days until show: 48
Doors open: 7:00 PM

MySpace Page

When rap exploded creatively and commercially in the late 1980s, Ice Cube was at the forefront of the expansion. As the lyrical brains behind N.W.A, the Los Angeles-based rapper instantly became a major player in the music game by leading a musical revolution with brutal, profane, politically-infused music that, for the first time in the genres history, sold millions of albums with N.W.As Straight Outta Compton. As a solo artist, Ice Cube became raps premier act with the release of the searing masterpieces AmeriKKKas Most Wanted and Death Certificate.

Now, after becoming Hollywoods most bankable actor thanks to his Barbershop and Friday franchises, Ice Cube returns to his first artistic love, rapping. Laugh Now, Cry Later, the multi-platinum, award-winning music icons first solo album in six years, simmers with celebration, as well as the rage, reflection and introspection that are the hallmarks of timeless music. I feel Laugh Now, Cry Later is the state of the world, of America, of urban America, of hip-hop, Ice Cube explains of his seventh solo album. It seems like everybody is playing and nobody’s worried about anything.

On the explosive Scott Storch (50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Beyonce) produced Why We Thugs, Ice Cube blasts an oppressive system that cripples Americas ghettos and fosters the perpetual ruin of such areas as South Central, Compton and Long Beach, Los Angeles metropolitan areas that have been war zones for decades.

Now, with the impending release of Laugh Now, Cry Later, his first solo album released on his own Lench Mob Records, Ice Cube is on top of his creative game and relishing in his ability to make his latest album at his own pace and on his own terms.

I’m putting my money where my mouth is because theres nothing a major label can do for me that I cant do for myself, he says. Not being signed to a particular label, putting it out myself, not having to worry about what a company or anyone else has to think about the record, being able to just go in and do it how I feel it with no timelines or deadlines, it made me comfortable. I was able to recommitment myself to rhyming and rapping. That all molded the way that this record sounds, which is important because I want my records to last the rest of the year when they come out.

Truth be told, Laugh Now, Cry Later will last well into the next decade.

Lesson From The Iranian Election

If we have learned nothing from the Iranian Election and subsequent protests, we should have learned the power of the internet, more importantly- YouTube, Twitter, Google, Yahoo!, email, cell phone video, FaceBook, MySpace, etc., and how it can be used effectively to launch a movement. I can’t encourage you more now than ever to enlist this same communications model by forming groups within every masajid and linked nationally/internationally to act as our own “griots” and news services. I ask ALL of you to join my Twitter following ( http://twitter.com/ajalil ) and form your own! We all know that Google, AT&T, Twitter, etc., are partners with the government in gathering and sharing information and intelligence manipulation, as we have been aware that the government has infiltrated groups for years. But don’t let that bother you, you will not engage in any illegal activity and can not afford not to use the tool. Do it!

We will produce original music, of the highest professional quality by the most respected artist in the industry. Every track will be of the highest quality recording and will be mixed “radio ready.”
The concept is simple: one might know our roster for their respective careers, but now we will expose their creative musical side for this worthy cause. Every artist and track will stand on its own, centered around the Project material and theme. Once two commercial CD/DVD editions are completed, the estimated timetable to officially launch nationally will be determined, planned and executed.
This is truly a benefit for the those in need. The bottom line is, producers will provide the tracks to the recording artist, studio time where possible, mixing, remixing and mastering support. Being that we are non exclusive, the Family retains 100% ownership and may continue to license the songs to other interested parties. Something like this has never been compiled before and brings a uniqueness to the market. I know that the fans of these artists will really enjoy getting to know this side of them.
Here is a link to an article on Imam Jamil with comments from Imam William Abdur-Rahim (Shareef’s father) that was posted in CNNSI.

***** Want to have YOUR NEWS broadcast?

NOW YOU CAN!

There has been a delay in the debut of Black Television News Channel (BTNC), until January 2010. BTNC announced a multi-year carriage agreement with Comcast Cable (CMCSA, CMCSK), the country’s leading provider of cable, entertainment and communications products and services, for a multi-city market to launch in 2009, that will be a 24/7 cable news network that provides original news programming with a distinctly African-American perspective which will fill the major void in coverage of African American-focused news and features by today’s mainstream media.

In our effort to succeed where BET and TV One has failed, we will actually have an excellent news department that focuses quality journalism on topics pertinent to the African-American community, as well as throughout the African diaspora.

BTNC will have the first regular, nightly, national news anchors in 24 hour broadcast news history to report on news aimed at the hungry black news audience, and it would be a welcome sight!

The broadcast will be stimulating and informational, and the personalities articulate and professional that “keep it real” to meet the needs of a very diverse people within a single ethnic group.

It will deliver legitimate news introduced from all perspectives from the various corners of the black community representing all our points of view, which will differ depending on where the camera takes you and who you talk to.

As there is a big world outside of our neighborhoods, the programming will feature people who are not African American, but who pique our interests and some of whom directly or indirectly affect black households and families as well as the rest of the world. You will see your neighbors and friends, too!

So the diversity of news that will be provided will be correct, honest and help the digestion of information and not tell you how to live your life. BTNC will give you the next dimension of viewer new by adding the “thought provoking, life changing element” to your news experience. It will bring inspiring commentary that will add something new to every very controversial topic!

BTNC’S KEY TO SUCCESS?

People are asking “how can BTNC succeed when others have failed?”
It’s a tired old saying, we know, but it happens to be true! BTNC’s success comes from thinking outside the box.
For instance, if you think inside the box (put your mouse inside the box), the box…slows or even stops.
Interesting?
If you move your mouse (and symbolically your thinking) away from the box…and you gain momentum.
We rest our case.
BTNC will continue to think outside the box, and will stay as far away from the box as is possible to achieve maximum momentum.
(Somewhat addicting, isn’t it?)

Below these links is some info on me that may enlighten you that I don’t share with many people. You may not know I don’t believe in “No one’s ever done that before”!
Click on my Haas Linked In Profile here or above and you will find things that I’m sure you did not know.
There is also info and links about and to many things I’ve never shared with too many people. The below profile contains the IRS case, the Law and Business schools subject matters including the Shariah-Riba compliant Tax Course and “White Paper” on the “al-Hakim Federal Tax Ruling” from the Wake Forest University School of Law, the portrait, the link to see the ABC- News special on the music conference at Masjid Warith Deen and the Historic 1979 BALSA Law Conference.
There’s info on the “Rap The Vote” concert/voter registration political campaign I did in Russia with Hammer in 1995 to secure the re-election of Russian President Boris Yeltsin. That strategy was hailed internationally as a political coup that saved Russian democracy and was the basis for the movie “Spinning Boris“starring Jeff Goldblum.

Please give me a call after you have had a chance to review everything and let’s arrange a chat session to discuss some possibilities. It’s always my pleasure and I hope to speak with you soon.

Leon Powe’s Free “Team Powe Basketball Clinic” This Saturday, August 26, 2006

Leon Powe didn’t attend his first basketball camp until he was 15 or 16 years old. Before that, there was nothing available to the former Oakland Tech High and Cal star. “I couldn’t go anyway … I didn’t have any money,” Powe said. “That would have been huge for me.”
Money won’t be an issue for youngsters on Saturday, when Powe, about to begin his rookie season with the Boston Celtics, hosts the first Team Powe Basketball Camp. Open to boys and girls ages 7 through 18, the camp will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Merritt College, Mens Gym, 12500 Campus Drive, Oakland, CA  94619, call (925) 969-3432 or email Jennifer Moilanen at jennifermoilanen@yahoo.com. The first 75 youngsters who arrive at camp Saturday will receive free T-shirt. Powe also plans to have other speakers on hand for the camp, including teachers, a lawyer and a banker.
Admission is free.
“Basically he just wants to give back,” said Bernard Ward, Powe’s mentor and friend. “He always said if he made it, he wanted to do whatever he can for kids. He knows a lot of kids can’t afford it.”
Leon Powe was drafted in the second round (No. 49 overall) by the Nuggets, traded to the Celtics and signed a two-year guaranteed contract for $400,000-plus per season, but Powe is using his NBA money to benefit the community.
Fatherless at 2, homeless at 7, eventually into the foster system. His mother, Connie Landry, died when he was a high school junior. He’s had two major knee reconstructions. “Sometimes, I wonder if I’m even supposed to be here,” Powe says. “But my mother had that will to survive. I think that’s what I have in me.” He recently flew to Colorado to personally thank Dr. Richard Steadman for doing such a great job rebuilding his knee.
“You just got to keep working hard, there ain’t nothing else about it,” Powe says. “It ain’t cars, it ain’t money, it ain’t none of that. This is a dream come true, you get to play in the NBA, you want to be the best player you can be. I know I do.”
The Celtics are encouraged by what they’ve seen so far. Assistant coach Tony Brown’s opinion began to crystallize after an early August training camp in Las Vegas that featured rookies, but also veterans such as Jermaine O’Neal and Shareef Abdur-Rahim. Brown said. “But he’s a physical-type player. He can rebound well. I was just impressed with his energy overall. And he wasn’t playing against any slouches — there were about 60 NBA players there.” Brown said the Celtics have a need for a physical inside presence. “It’s amazing the kind of attitude he has,” Brown said, alluding to the challenges Powe overcame while growing up. “He’s well-mannered and very polite. I also like he can leave that at the door. When he competes he can take it to another level. “If he can keep that going, he should have a nice NBA career.”
Powe and Ward are founding an agency to place foster children and group-home children in caring homes and top-flight schools.
He and his younger brother, Tim, spent close to a dozen years shifting between shelters, drug infested tenements, motel rooms and cramped apartments while their mother Connie Landry tried to keep the family afloat by hustling at local flea markets in Oakland. She battled drugs, and eventually, all but one of her seven children became wards of the county.
He has lived the worst kind of nightmare. Powe did not have much support as a kid, much less a real childhood. “It was kind of a forced maturity,” Cal coach Ben Braun says. “He didn’t have a lot of time to sort things out. He had to survive and advance.”
When Powe was 2 and Tim was just a newborn, their father walked out on the family. Five years later, Powe’s own nightmare began.
He was at school, his mother was at work and his grandmother was baby sitting at the family’s three-bedroom North Oakland duplex when Tim, then 5, came across a box of matches and accidentally set the house on fire. Powe was driven home from school by his uncle when he saw flames, fire trucks and his mother crying in the street.
“I was just hoping nobody in my family was hurt because I knew my grandma, she couldn’t move that fast,” he says. “Then, I started to get mad, thinking about all my stuff. I had my own computer. There was nothing left. It was the beginning of a long nightmare.”
The home was reduced to cinders and the family became nomads, living briefly with Landry’s mother and later with an aunt, before embarking on an odyssey that included as many as 30 temporary stops at some of the worst housing in the Bay area. “The worst part was the fact we were always moving,” Powe says. “I never really got to stay at a place I wanted to stay at. But life goes in different ways sometimes.”
Connie Landry was the face of desperation. “She had to hold everything down,” Powe says. “She didn’t have a second parent in the house, so she almost had to play both the mother and the father, which was difficult because of the money problems she was going through.”
As the oldest son, he missed almost an entire school year in fifth grade because he had to babysit the children while his mother worked. “I learned a lot about changing diapers and warming bottles,” he says. He had to repeat the grade.
The lack of parental supervision forced Powe to grow up fast. “I had to watch the kids until she got back,” he says. “I got to hang out at nighttime, when it was 12 and 1 o’clock, which was all bad,” he says. “You know there’s nothing good going on on the streets at that time of night.”
<>In 1998, Powe and his brother Tim were taken from his mother and placed in foster care. “I didn’t care about school, sitting in class, taking notes, doing homework,” said Powe. “I didn’t think I was going to college. I heard<> you have to have all these A’s and B’s. And I said, ‘I’m not doing it.'”
But he did care about basketball. “It didn’t hit me until my grades came
out in 9th grade,” he says. “I had messed up grades. I was ineligible for the first four games. Coach told me I couldn’t suit up. That hurt me, touched me.
<>”I was like, ‘If I had the grades, I’d have been out here playing. Let me try something to get this report card straight.’ I started going to class, focusing on my classes. My GPA rose from a 1.8 to a 2.3 and I didn’t even put all my effort into it. I kept building on that.”
<>    Powe had a 3.2 GPA his senior year. He took the SATs four times to obtain the necessary scores for admission. <>    But there was a sadness even to his success. He remained close to his mother, although the family had been torn apart. “It was frustrating,” he says. “Normal kid, you want to be home with moms and moms ain’t there.”<>Then, just four days before Powe was scheduled to play in the California state championship game his jun<>ior year in high school, his mother died at 41 from heart disease. Powe played in the game, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, but his team lost. “That was all bad. I thought about quitting,” he says. “My dream was always to buy my mother a new house and she was gone.” <>Powe got through his mother’s death, but there were other obstacles. That spring, while playing in an AAU tournament in Houston, Powe tore the ACL in his left knee while going for a dunk.
<><>    He came back to play his senior year at Tech and lead his team to the state finals again, almost single-handedly beating powerful Westchester. But he never had any formal rehab on his knee and when he got to Cal, he was put on a grueling training program. Powe made an immediate impact and was named Pac-10 Rookie of the Year despite playing with the torn ACL. He was in such pain, the doctors determined that he needed an operation on the knee. He had a bone graft done in April of 2004 and had reconstructive knee surgery the following fall.
Ward says he and Powe are working on a plan to eventually collect all of Leon’s brothers and sisters, five of whom are in foster care, under one roof. “In my family, we don’t give up, especially when it gets tough,” Powe says. “If you give up, where you gonna go? And I wanted to go to the top.” Powe says he wants to be the family and community role model he didn’t have as a kid. He says he eventually will earn his degree from Cal.
“My mom told me to finish,” Powe says. “I gotta carry that out.”
Powe and Ward has also began a venture called All Star Sports Media” that creates and specializes in video recruitment packages, season highlights, documentaries, corporate events, fundraisers, concerts and videos for athletes, entertainers and corporate clients in HD. This DVD is a great tool for athletes to present to college sports recruiters or entertainers to record labels, commercial, video, film and TV producers!

Merritt College

Leon Powe of the NBA World Champion Boston Celtics didn’t attend his first basketball camp until he was 15 or 16 years old. Before that, there was nothing available to the former Oakland Tech High and Cal star. “I couldn’t go anyway … I didn’t have any money,” Powe said. “That would have been huge for me.”

Open to boys and girls ages 7 through 18, the camp will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Merritt College, Mens Gym, 12500 Campus Drive, Oakland, CA 94619 · (510) 637-8389. All skill levels are welcome. Basketball coaches will be on hand for skills and drills. Participants should bring their lunch. All youngsters who attend the camp will receive a free T-shirt. Powe also plans to have other speakers on hand for the camp, including the Director of Admissions at Cal Berkeley, teachers, a Hip Hop artist, a lawyer and a banker. The registration fee is $25(includes both days), begins at 7:30 am Friday morning and the form is attached. All proceeds will be go to the “Powe Folks” Camp.
“Basically he just wants to give back,” said Bernard Ward, Powe’s mentor and friend. “He always said if he made it, he wanted to do whatever he can for kids. He knows a lot of kids can’t afford it.”

HERO of the NBA Championships

Leon Powe was drafted in the second round (No. 49 overall) by the Nuggets, instantly traded to the Celtics is on the verge of signing a multi-year, multi-million dollar guaranteed contract, but Powe is using his NBA money to benefit the community.
In Game 2 of the NBA Finals, Leon Powe, a second-year, second-round draft pick from Oakland out of Cal, was the Celtics hero. Years earlier, he was his family’s hero, as he helped keep his siblings together while they bounced between 26 different homeless shelters in a year during a patch when his mother couldn’t afford shelter. It’s one of the most touching sports stories in ages, and his emergence as a playoff force only highlights it.
he Bay Area’s OWN Leon Powe!!!
ABC/ESPN produced a short biography on how Leon overcame tremendous adversity to make it on one of the NBA’s most elite franchises, the Boston Celtics. The night this aired, Leon Powe wowed the international television crowd when he scored 21 points off the bench in less than 15 minutes to spark the Boston Celtics to a 108-102 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers to take a 2-0 lead in the NBA Finals. Paul Pierce, whose effectiveness was questionable before the game, led the Celtics with 28 points.

The Lakers trailed by 24 with less than 8 minutes to go, but pulled to 104-102 on two free throws by Bryant with 38.4 seconds left. But Pierce made two free throws, then blocked a jumper by Sasha Vujacic, and James Posey made two free throws with 12.6 seconds left to ice it for Boston.
Kobe Bryant scored scored 13 of his 30 points in the last 7:40 as the Lakers erased all but two points of a 24-point deficit before losing to the Boston Celtics 108-102 in Game 2 of the NBA finals.
He says that Boston’s three pointers in transition are what hurt the Lakers. He also said that it would have helped if his team got to take some foul shots, but credited Leon Powe for his amazing game off the bench. The Celtics were 27-38 from the free throw line, compared to the Lakers who were 10-10. Leon Powe was 9-13 from the line. (Click here to view Leon’s highlights of game)
Powe, who played a total of 68 seconds during one stretch of 13 games during the season, scored six points to close a 15-2 run ending the third quarter. At one point in the fourth quarter, Boston fans discarded the familiar chants of “beat L.A.” for cries of “Le-on Powe!” (Click here to view Leon’s ABC/ESPN interview)
The Celtics went on to win the NBA Championship in 6 games and Celtic superstars Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, say that their happiness is due in large part to the play of Oakland’s own, Leon Powe!

The Inspiration

NBA player and Oakland native Leon Powe has a vision, bring the community of Oakland together to help Oakland achieve its true potential.
Growing up in Oakland, Leon faced many obstacles that continue to challenge Oakland youth today. With perseverance and guidance from his mentor, Bernard Ward, Leon overcame those obstacles and has spent the past three years playing for the NBA’s Boston Celtics. Leon helped the Celtics earn a world championship in the 2007-2008 season.

The City of Oakland parallels Leon’s story, as it must overcome many obstacles while striving for greatness. Fresh Start for Oakland is an opportunity for the community to come together to experience local vendor’s goods & services, have conversations with local community leaders and work together to achieve a Fresh Start for Oakland.

Trombone Summit; Wycliffe Gordon “Caravan”

Wycliffe Gordon is one of the top trombonists in jazz today. His improvisations are melodic and exciting, his tone is sweet and expressive, and everything he plays swings like crazy. He has performed all over the world, received countless awards from fans and critics, and collaborated with far too many great jazz artists to list. In addition to his prominence as a performer, Gordon is a composer, arranger, educator, and author. He has composed music for a variety of world-class ensembles as well as for film and television productions. His outstanding work as an educator includes international clinics and master classes for students of all ages, as well as extensive teaching at Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Stanford Jazz Workshop. As a musical diplomat for the U.S. State Department, Gordon promotes a positive vision of worldwide
harmony (not to mention melody and rhythm). The creative originality and irrepressible joy of Gordon’s music are well-served by a top-notch Bay Area rhythm section featuring Matt Clark on piano, John Shifflett on bass, and Jason Lewis on drums.

“Mr. Gordon has rightfully earned a reputation as one of the premier trombonists of our time. A superior technician with a gift for buoyant swing, Mr. Gordon, above, is a feel-good player, made of much the same stuff as the trumpeter Clark Terry.”

Lewis Nash Quintet with Regina Carter, “Tico Tico”

While some may consider the violin to be a slightly unconventional jazz instrument, such restrictive conventions have never hindered Regina Carter’s creativity. Growing up in Detroit, Carter played in orchestral string sections, but longed to find a more individual mode of expression. Hearing jazz violin legend Stephane Grappelli opened her ears to a different approach and started a lifelong love affair with jazz and improvisation. Since she began releasing recordings as a leader in the mid-1990s, Carter has continued to make bold choices and blaze her own musical trail. Her diverse projects include a celebration of the musical heritage of Detroit, from Thad Jones to Marvin Gaye; a disc of duets with the great pianist Kenny Barron; a loving tribute to her late mother’s favorite songs of the swing era; and a live album documenting her triumphant performance in Genoa, Italy on the famous “Il Cannone” violin once owned by Niccolò Paganini—the first time a jazz musician was invited to play the legendary instrument. A relentlessly creative artist with extraordinary versatility, Carter has performed with leading musicians in many genres, from Wynton Marsalis to Mary J. Blige.

“Regina Carter creates music that is wonderfully listenable, probingly intelligent and, at times, breathtakingly daring… taking the listener into the future of jazz.”

Twitter Engages in Censorship, Protects Jerry Brown, John Russo Corruption!!

Herein below is an email to Twitter regarding their engaging in censorship to protect California Attorney General Jerry Brown, Oakland City Attorney John Russo and Alameda County D.A. Tom Orloff’s corruption in an ongoing case reported to the U. S. Attorney General, Department of Justice.
Ginger,
On October 17, and 21, 2009  I sent emails to Twitter complaining about a “suspension” of my account (@nowtruth) for allegedly replying to tweets sent to me and “suspicious activity”!
I have not received any response to my rejection of the claims and contesting of the “suspension”. The idea that someone can have their account suspended for replying to tweets sent to them is preposterous!!! Isn’t that the process? Further, there were @mentions, not replys, for which your system does not seem to be able to distinguish the difference!!
However, when someone tweets you, you can and should reply with a meaningful response. ALL of the @mentions/replies/responses were to related items or news of a related nature to the attention of those mentioned, not anyone else. So there is no spamming issue. What’s the offense?
There is NOTHING suspicious about this action! Were you contacted with a report of reply spam? Our tweets are all you need to establish their validity. The tweet was regarding the corruption on behalf of California Attorney General Jerry Brown, Oakland City Attorney John Russo and Alameda County D.A. Tom Orloff in an ongoing case reported to the U. S. Attorney General, Department of Justice. We have received several @mentions from people sympathetic to those parties had have tried tirelessly to silence this case and the information about it from getting out to the masses in an effort to protect them. The specific tweet in question was displaying an email from John Russo threatening a KPFA reporter, Gabrielle Wilson, if she proceeded with a radio broadcast of a show with Brown, Russo and the plaintiff in the case.
During the week of August 23, 2009 Miss Wilson received a phone call from Evan Westrep from Brown’s office. He left a voice mail message for her at radio station KPFA stating he would pass her interview request along to Brown’s schedulers.
During that same week, Miss Wilson received emails and phone calls from Oakland City Attorney Russo’s press director Alex Katz. One email Katz sent to her and Sasha Lilley, interim Program Director at KPFA, with a cc: to Mark Moromodi, Supervising Deputy for the Oakland City Attorney, proclaiming that City Attorney John Russo was not involved in the case, yet he wanted her to answer questions as to why she wanted to provide a forum for the plaintiff, al-Hakim whom he alleged had posted threatening videos about John Russo. Heres an copy of that email that was a twitpic sent to our followers:

Katz followed up that email with a voicemail message he left for Miss Wilson after the close of business just hours before the scheduled broadcast was to occur threatening her and warned Miss Wilson not to broadcast the interview and demanded she speak with him before she aired the scheduled program. He did this though he wanted Miss Wilson and KPFA to believe that John Russo and the City Attorney’s office was not involved in the case and had nothing to hide! You can listen to that voicemail message here.

Gabby Katz 1  http://www.box.net/shared/vzxrkntbcf

Gabby Katz 2  http://www.box.net/shared/m1imsl7bje

Luis Medina, a manager in the music director’s office at KPFA then calls Miss Wilson just hours prior to the scheduled broadcast and leaves a voicemail message warning her that it was very important for the broadcast not to occur. He also stated that there might be very serious repercussions taken if she were to proceed as planned. She even received a phone call from the long-time regular show host, Emmitt Powell whom was contacted by the station in response to Russo’s effort to censor the show.
Miss Wilson proceeded to host the program all alone to comply with the City Attorney and KPFA’s censorship directive…without any of her invited guests. You can listen to that voicemail message here. Gabby Aborted Interv VM- Luis Medina http://www.box.net/shared/2epx0xcla1

Miss Wilson was forced to make at least three announcements to inform the public whom had tuned in to hear this intriguing panel examine this critical civil rights and corruption case in an important election year, that this incredible show had been canceled due to KPFA’s censorship by Oakland City Attorney John Russo! You can listen to those announcements here.
First Announcement: Gabby Aborted Interv Ann 1 http://www.box.net/shared/5hrfbsm8xj

Second Announcement: Gabby Aborted Interv Ann 2 http://www.box.net/shared/0idjh3jitg

Third Announcement: Gabby Aborted Interv Ann 3 http://www.box.net/shared/t4dg2k65a3

Russo proceeded to engage in censorship by forcing the cancellation of the show and trying to conceal it from the public. Russo and Brown claim that they are not involved in the case yet irrefutable evidence prove otherwise! If they are not involved and have nothing to hide, why censor the show? Those actions are public now as the reporter released a statement on their crimes of which this is merely another instance of. Now for you.
You aren’t engaging in censorship are you? Have you been contacted by any of these parties or their representatives, including Alex Katz, Joe Trippi, Jeremy D. Thompson, or anyone else regarding this alleged violation of Twitter policy? Is this a problem of your system not being able to differentiate between a reply and an @mention?
I certainly know that if you were investigating suspicious activity in this case, you need to take a look at the actions of those that got you to comply with their desire to censor this case and their continuing crimes for which Twitter founder Evan Williams, co-founder Biz Stone, and Twitter are now involved. We will not stop our civil and criminal investigation in this matter as we proceed, it only widens and deepens in it’s breadth and depth.
There’s nothing even remotely suspicious about our tweets, we will not be censored, and we are continuing to investigate yours and their suspicious activity and to prosecute those involved in these continuing crimes. Anything you need to further investigate feel free to call.
We look forward to your response.

Ticket #605636: To Whom It May Concern, How can an account be suspende…

ginger, Oct 21 03:04 pm (PDT):Hello from Twitter,
This is an automated confirmation that we received your ticket. If you’re contesting a suspension, be sure to read this entire email; you will need to take further action in order to reopen your ticket.
Please be sure your account is actually suspended. You should visit your own profile page to make sure you’re suspended and not viewing another person’s suspended profile page–many people think they are suspended when they aren’t. You’ll also know you’re suspended if you log in and see a red notice announcing your suspension on your account.
Twitter primarily suspends accounts for Terms of Service violations or spam investigation. If you are suspended, it’s most likely for one or more of these reasons:
· aggressive following or follower churn (repeatedly following and unfollowing users)
· trend spamming (posting unrelated updates to trending topics to gain attention)
· misuse of the reply feature
· updates consist of links pointing to phishing sites, malware, or other harmful material
· updates consist of duplicate links and/or text
· updates consist mainly of links duplicated across multiple accounts, and not personal updates
· account identified as potentially being part of a spam cluster
· a large number of people block the profile or write in with spam complaints
Please review the Twitter Rules for a more comprehensive list:
http://help.twitter.com/forums/26257/entries/15790
If you feel you’ve been suspended in error, please reply to this email with a short explanation and be sure to include your username. Responding to this email will reopen this ticket and put your ticket in queue for support, but you need to reply from the address this mail was sent to. If you use an alias (such as username+alias@gmail.com), ensure that your reply comes from the alias address or your ticket may not be seen by our support staff. We will do our best to get back to you within 30 days.
If
this did not answer your inquiry, responding to this email will reopen this ticket.
Thanks,

The Passing of Michael Jackson

I have received many emails and phone calls from various people and organizations asking for a comment on the passing of Michael Jackson (”Al-hamdu Lillaah, innaa Lillaahi wa innaa ilayhi raaji’oon“ (‘Praise be to Allaah, Verily To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return’) and whether or not he was a Muslim.

For some of you, you know that Michael was close to Islam, many of his advisors were/are Muslims and have been for years. He was always a guest of the various royal families, and has Muslims in his family. It was stated that he had taken his Shahada as recently as 6 months ago during a recording session.

I have refrained from saying anything definitive for the following reasons and it gives me an opportunity to address some other issues that have disturbed me for many years about Muslims and the state of our collective iman and practice of this deen.

First, the family has requested that everyone respect their grieving and privacy at this time and who are we to demand answers of/to such a personal and private nature at ANY time! Next, was he Muslim? Allahu Alim!!! Whether he was or not, did he live in such a way that you would know it?

Whether his lifestyle exhibited it or not, if he chose to live in such a way that you would not know, or felt that he wasn’t, wasn’t that his choice? Does he owe anyone any open display of his beliefs?

How many ”Muslims“ do you know that you can tell they are a Muslim by their lifestyle? Does anyone really know by what you observe outwardly? Would that outward appearance allow you to know for certain and swear that person is or is not a ”Muslim“? Can you ”see and know“ that persons practice of their Deen from observing their outward appearance?

I suggest that no one can factually! Again, Allahu Alim!!! Which brings me to the issue that I have had with the state of our collective practice of this Deen.

Having been involved in this business of representing, managing, promoting, and advising many of the worlds most recognized Superstar professional athletes, celebrities and entertainers, I am intimately engaged in the reality of ”hero worship“ and the effects that it has on the public.

Friends and Clients: Hammer and MJ

I have expierenced many times over where someone has stated that even my own clients and friends were Muslims and I had to chastise some very well respected and known Islamic leaders because tht fact was NOT TRUE! I have had several Superstars that has worked with me for years and participated in various Islamic events and even professional performances for Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, a Saudi Arabian businessman, investor, philanthropist as well as other wealthy members of the Saudi Royal Family. Hammer even Co-Hosted and Co-Mc’d a National Islamic Convention with me on stage and participated in a three day International Islamic Conference! BUT, he is not Muslim and they both were dogged with this!

To a great extent, I created much of ”how it is done“ and originated the field over 35 years ago including the founding of Nike’s ”Pro Club“ which was the first group of professional athletes signed to exclusive contracts to endorse the brand.

This was the precursor and beginnings of the Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James branding divisions of today. But I digress. It never ceases to amaze and perturb me whenever I encounter someone that wants to find ”something“ to ”look up to/worship“ in a ”celebrity personality“ being ”Muslim“ just because they are a recognized celebrity.

They approach this phenomena as if it somehow is going to make them ”better“ in someway. We have witnessed the fervor that took hold of the Muslim communities when it was rumored that Denzel Washington had reverted/converted to Islam while prepping for ”Malcolm X“ and the same for Will Smith with ”Ali“, Princess Di in her relationship with Dodi al-Fayed, Samuel L. Jackson, O. J. Simpson, Mike Tyson, Ice Cube and M.C. Hammer many times because of his relationship with me and supporting Islamic events, and on and on.

I know some Shaykhs and Imams that have performed the alleged shahadah’s and I could not state with any certainty that the celebrity was ”Muslim“. What is this fascination with and what do we get out of these ”celebrities“ being Muslim, even if  they are/were?

Is it the potential advantages for dawah that might be extracted from it’s proper use in marketing that fact? Does it somehow give you more ”pride“ in being ”Muslim“ because the ”celebrity is “Muslim”? Does it make you and/or the Deen of al-Islam more acceptable to some segment of society that you want to appease and be accepted by? Does this “celebrity” somehow make you a “better Muslim” in some way? Does this celebrity make your prayer, and/or service of sacrifice for Allah(swt) possible, easier or fulfilled in some way? Are you going to receive some additional blessings because they might be “Muslim”?

Do you gain any blessings because they are a “good” Muslim and/or do you also share/suffer the punishment if they are not “good” Muslims?

You see, ALL this is useless when it comes to you and Allah(swt) just as it is useless to them when it comes to them and Allah(swt). If at some point Michael’s family chooses to state that he was Muslim, and it has been rumored for years while there are other members of his family that openly proclaim they are, how can it help anyone then?

There are many “celebrity Muslims” that are alive and well here today that I don’t see how that fact is going to get anyone into Jannah. This brings me to the point.

IT’S NOT!!! It will, at best, only have a microscopic marginal effect on your existence and only Allah(swt) will know that. But if it makes someone feel good about being “Muslim” then that is a positive that we all will take.

But there is something patently wrong with the “hero worship” associated with celebrities in any form, of any stature, and this is from someone that helped create the business. There is a slogan from President Barack Obama’s campaign that when modified is so apropos for this concern. “You are the Muslim You that have been Waiting For ALL THIS TIME!!!”

What one needs, this will not come from anyone else, not your Shaykhs, Imams, nor parents! We need to stop looking for something in someone, something, anyone, anything else, that we can and must ALL inevitably find in ourselves thru Allah(swt), Quran, the Sunnah of prophet Mohammad(saas), Hadith and our practice of this Deen of al-Islam.

I pray Allah(swt) that I have answered those questions asked of me, insha’Allah. Here’s a link to a newscast regarding Michael’s reversion/conversion:

Muslims Doing Great Dawah In SF/Oakland Bay Area

The Free Food give-aways with KPFA Radio Station in Berkeley has been INCREDIBLE SUCCESSES masha’Allah.

You can listen to or download the broadcast of the PSA’s for the Free Food Donations by clicking the links below. Everyone came from miles around was treated with as much food and flowers as they could pack, including the staff at Pacifica Radio Corporate and KPFA al’hamdu’lillah. They now want to do this donation on a weekly basis after the overwhelming back-to-back-to back successes of the previous public food give-aways that had people calling and coming from as far away as Santa Barbara and north/east to Oregon and Nevada.

There are no words to express the sincere gratitude and “Thanks” conveyed on the part of the public and the employees and staff at Pacifica Radio and KPFA. JOB WELL DONE!!! These events was sponsored by Masjid al-Islam, Masjidul Waritheen, Oakland Islamic Center, Masjid Tasbeeh, The Muslim Community Center of San Francisco, Jama’atus Salaam, Go Wireless, Emad’s Tune Up, and The Justice For Ali Campaign- all of Oakland.

These type of promotions are impossible without their involvement in these efforts, insha’Allah. This is incredible Dawah! Jazzak Allah Khair Khayrun. The “Thank You’s” to the Masajids and Muslims businesses for their invaluable support in providing all the food and floral arrangements with 100’s of bouquets of flowers and more for the “Nadra Foster Benefit” at La Pena Restaurant in Berkeley was aired live on the “Full Circle Show” with Host Joy Moore on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 7:00 PM. Jazzak Allah Khair Khayrun. Oddly enough, while the broadcast was being aired, unbeknownst to the crew, Khalil Yasin was there providing food and refreshments for them for their enjoyment after the show.

They still have not stop thanking him and the above mentioned parties. You can listen to or download the broadcast of the “Thank You’s” mentioned above by clicking on the links below. Be sure and spread the word to support and acknowledge the Dawah these masajids and businesses are doing for our communities and Islam.

On several occassions I have pointed out to many people at Pacifica/KPFA, a young man standing next to Snoop Dogg in a framed picture proudly displayed on the main wall outside their main conference room, from a rally to save Tookie Williams from execution held in November 2005. That young man is Imam Abu Qadir al-Amin.

They were even more humbled when they acknowledged that he and the Muslim Community Center were one of the sponsors for this event.
