Resigning Oakland City Attorney Wants OUT!!! Can’t Dodge Fraud, Corruption Charges!
Crooked, soon to be former crooked Oakland City Attorney John Russo, being forced to resign from a constant three year barrage of fact laden reports of fraud and corruption by Abdul-Jalil al-Hakim, is one of three finalists for the Alameda city manager position sources have confirmed. You can view the 2009 video of Oakland City Attorney John Russo’s Political Suicide- Must Resign at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukIU4CDoLnI
For years Russo has been avoiding criminal and civil charges of extrinsic fraud and corruption, among others in the al-Hakim insurance case, has been dodging rumors for weeks that he is feuding with new Oakland Mayor Jean Quan and looking for ways to leave his post. Now, however, it turns out that at least part of that rumor is true: Russo applied for the Alameda job after the recruitment period opened Feb. 1. Alameda City Council interviewed six candidates and unanimously selected three finalists during a closed-door session Feb. 19. The candidates will be reviewed by three advisory panels that will help the council make its final decision.
Russo, whose annual salary in Oakland is about $214,000, would probably get a pay raise. Alameda’s most recent interim and acting city managers made about $250,000, including benefits, and that could go up. The job in Alameda would thrust Russo into the contentious issue of developing the former Alameda Naval Air Station, now known as Alameda Point. The property was expected to be a boon to the city after the base closed in 1997, but it has languished unused and remains federal property. The new city manager in Alameda would also have to hire both a police and fire chief, positions currently being held down on an interim basis.
Russo, was a contributor to Marie Gilmore’s mayoral campaign and also the city council campaign of Councilwoman Lena Tam, whose innocence he proclaimed at a fundraiser for Tam shortly after she was accused of leaking confidential information to then-Alameda Point developer SunCal and Alameda’s firefighters. He donated $1,750 in the last election to a new council majority of Gilmore and council members Lena Tam and Rob Bonta according to campaign finance records. The three have the power to select the next city attorney.
